Kalau urusan Original Screenplay, sudah cukup jelas, Wes Anderson dengan “The Grand Budapest Hotel” adalah yang terbaik. Dari seantero nominasi, bila membandingkan “Birdman”, menurut saya cukup kontras. Apalagi bila dihubungkan dengan “Boyhood” yang script-nya penuh dengan penyesuaian setiap tahunnya.

Mungkin terdapat beberapa perbedaan pendapat antara pihak yang mengunggulkan “The Imitation Game” dengan “Whiplash.” Buat saya, “The Imitation Game” merupakan salah satu adaptasi yang punya dialog-dialog bagus, dan punya sedikit improvisasi untuk mempercantik kisah aslinya yang tidak sebaik filmnya.

“Ida” dan “Wild Tales” menjadi favorit para kritikus dan saya menjagokan “Ida.” Selain kategori ini, “Ida” juga mendapatkan nominasi untuk Cinematography, yang berarti film ini yang cukup outstanding dibanding film lainnya. Selain itu, kisah flashback yang dibalut tampilan black-and-white, serta kedalaman emosi yang tersampaikan membuat saya menjagokan film ini.

Inarritu berani mengambil resiko, dan Ia berhasil. “Birdman” merupakan sebuah garapan yang cukup serius, dan membuat Inarritu menjadi favorit selama Awards season, dan merubah trend sejak Ia memenangkan DGA. Tapi bisa jadi Linklater menjadi surprise winner, untuk kerja kerasnya 12 tahun. Tetapi seperti skenario ini akan terjadi bila Birdman yang menjadi “Best Picture.”

Di nominasinya kelimanya, Moore menjadi favorit yang selalu unggul di award season tahun ini, and she deserves it.. (Bila Moore menang, saya akan cukup menyamakannya dengan Kate Winslet yang sama-sama senang “tampil berani demi pengusaan peran karakternya”, dan setelah berkali-kali dapat nominasi, memenangkan Oscar untuk “The Reader” di tahun 2009.)

Keaton menghadirkan sebuah penampilan yang membuktikan bahwa Ia merupakan sebuah Aktor, bukan selebritis. Sisi lain, memerankan sosok Stephen Hawking oleh Redmayne, adalah sebuah penampilan yang luar biasa. Saya cukup salut dengan akting Redmayne yang cukup tidak tergantikan,

Sejak kemenangan “Birdman” dibeberapa ajang, saya tetap pada pilihan saya untuk menjagokan “Boyhood.” Keduanya memang sama-sama garapan yang cukup serius, tetapi “Boyhood” membutuhkan sebuah komitmen yang luar biasa yang tidak anda temukan di “Birdman.”
Final Thoughts:
Oscar tahun ini mungkin akan menjadi persaingan ketat antara “Boyhood” dan “Birdman”, terutama untuk kategori “Directing” dan “Best Picture.” Saya cukup yakin keduanya akan membagi rata untuk hasil kedua nominasi tersebut. Dari kategori akting, sudah cukup jelas siapa-siapa saja yang akan masuk ke winner list, kecuali adanya surprise winner.
In Memoriam Section:
One of my favourite scene… In Memoriam tahun ini juga cukup saya harapkan untuk dihadirkan dengan montage-montage, tidak sekedar simple seperti tahun lalu. Lauren Bacall, Mike Nichols, Gordon Willis, Ruby Dee, James Garner, Martha Hyer, Paul Mazursky, Mickey Rooney, Oswald Morris, Dick Smith, dan Robin Williams hanyalah beberapa nama -nama yang saya rasa cukup wajib untuk dimasukkan ke montage Academy.“We loved you, we miss you, but most of all, we thanked you.” (Glenn Close at In Memoriam Closing Speech at 86th Academy Awards)
